The 30’s.

DEACON, FOWLER, PURVIS, and SYKES are four bank robbers are on the run through the Ozark forests, in a desperate bid to escape after having crashed their getaway vehicle.

The four robbers come upon REBECCA, an old woman foraging for plants in the middle of woods. Despite their guns and desperate manners, she invites these rough men to her home for food and shelter. She leads them to an old, rundown house in the middle of woods, where they find Rebecca's daughter, AURALEE.

The two women have lived in isolation with only the most limited contact with the outside world. The odd thing is the the large collection of goods the women say travelers traded for a night’s lodging; suitcases, backpacks, clothing, and the like... yet the land surrounding the house is overgrown and any paths are not well-trodden.

As time passes, it becomes apparent Auralee is quite taken with Deacon and the same seems to be true for him. The others want to leave as soon as possible but Rebecca gives them pause for thought as she tells them a tale about the people of the dark who live in the woods surrounding them.

Odd things begin to happen. The night seems to stretch on as bone-chilling events unfold... with none of them able to leave.
